[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) secured a total of 70.27 billion KRW in resources by achieving awards in 98 categories across various external institution evaluations and public contests throughout this year.
The achievements of Gangdong-gu are considered the best ever, including 17 Ministerial Awards, 11 awards from private organizations such as media, 2 international awards, and 2 Manifesto Grand Prize awards.
This year, Gangdong-gu not only grew quantitatively in award categories but also demonstrated outstanding performance in the fields of 'creation and innovation' by winning the 'CSV Porter' Creative Innovation Award, the Excellent Institution Award in the 'Local Government Innovation Evaluation,' and the Silver Award in the Government Innovation category at the 'Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.'
Additionally, sustainable and environmentally friendly policies unique to Gangdong-gu shone through with numerous awards such as the 'Asia Urban Landscape Award' received for the green remodeling project of the aging government building, the 'Korea Environmental Grand Prize' won for the 10th consecutive time, the prestigious 'Blue City Seoul Award,' the 'Living SOC Contest' award for the Net Zero Energy Maru project, and the 'Local Autonomy Policy Award.'
Gangdong-gu also won the Grand Prize at the 'Korea Spatial Welfare Awards' with its ‘Gangdong-type Spatial Welfare’ policy, which adds sharing and innovation to existing facilities. The meticulous care for target groups such as infants, children and adolescents, youth, seniors, and people with disabilities, along with the bold introduction of private expert participation systems in fields like landscape and architecture, appears to have received favorable evaluations.
Significant achievements were also made in public contests. Selected for the 'Seoul Metropolitan Area Station District Revitalization Project,' Gangdong-gu saved 63.1 billion KRW in budget through a donation method, securing a total of 70.2 billion KRW in resources, including 3.58 billion KRW from contest selections such as 'Station District Youth Housing,' 'Alleyway Regeneration,' and 'Smart Solution Challenge.'
