Jindo-gun Wins Jeonnam Province Eco-Friendly Agriculture 'Grand Prize'
Organic Certified Area Increased by 421% Compared to Last Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that it received the grand prize in the 2020 Eco-friendly Agriculture Comprehensive Evaluation hosted by Jeollanam-do.
Along with winning the Excellence Award in 2018, receiving the grand prize for the first time in five years since 2015 once again confirmed Jindo-gun's status in eco-friendly agriculture within Jeollanam-do.
Jindo-gun is actively fostering eco-friendly organic farming by supporting a total of 4.1 billion KRW from the county budget for 42 projects, including the eco-friendly complex rice straw return project to improve paddy soil fertility, eco-friendly agricultural product production subsidies, support for goji berry rain shelter greenhouses, and reduction of farmers' self-pay for crop disaster insurance.
In particular, among the 3,475 hectares of eco-friendly certified area this year, the organic certification area increased by 421% compared to last year (602 hectares), reaching 2,500 hectares.
Also, the certified area for fruit and vegetables increased by 273%, from 18 hectares last year to 67 hectares this year, which received excellent evaluation.
