Gwangju City to Implement Paid Parking at Government Office Lots Starting January 1 Next Year
Basic 1 Hour 30 Minutes Free, 300 Won Every 10 Minutes Overtime... Maximum 8,000 Won Per Day
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 22nd that starting from the 1st of next month, parking fees will be charged for vehicles using parking lots.
Until now, Gwangju City has operated the government office parking lot for free, but due to severe parking difficulties causing significant inconvenience to visitors to the city hall, the introduction of paid parking has been proposed as a solution to alleviate the parking shortage.
Gwangju City invested 700 million KRW to complete the installation of the parking fee payment system in September, and finalized the implementation of paid parking through trial operations conducted until this month.
For visitors, the first 1 hour and 30 minutes of parking is free, and if exceeded, a fee of 300 KRW is charged every 10 minutes, with a maximum daily charge of 8,000 KRW.
Additionally, the parking lot will be open free of charge to citizens from 7 PM on weekdays until 7 AM the next day, as well as on Saturdays and public holidays.
With the implementation of paid parking, it is expected that overnight and long-term parking by nearby store users and office workers who have used the city hall parking lot will be curbed, thereby alleviating the parking shortage.
