Year-end Neighborly Love Donation of 4 Billion Won Delivered to Community Chest of Korea
GS Affiliates Practice Year-end Neighborly Love through Employee Volunteering and Fundraising
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] On the 15th, GS Group donated 4 billion KRW in year-end neighbor love donations to the Community Chest of Korea.
Since 2005, GS has been donating year-end neighbor love funds to the Community Chest of Korea to help socially vulnerable groups, and the total amount donated to date reaches 60 billion KRW. The funds delivered on this day will be used to support neighbors in need and those who are marginalized.
A GS representative stated, "We hope this will bring warm comfort to neighbors who are having an even harder time during the year-end and New Year holidays due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)." He added, "We will continue social care activities to help socially disadvantaged people become self-reliant and live healthy lives by utilizing the capabilities and expertise of GS affiliates."
GS Chairman Huh Tae-soo has emphasized corporate social responsibility by saying, "To become an excellent and sustainable company, it is essential not only to contribute to national economic development but also to practice various activities for social contribution and mutual growth based on fair and transparent management." He also stated, "Companies should take the lead in their social roles through sharing."
In addition to this neighbor love donation, GS is actively practicing neighborly love through employee volunteer work and various social contribution programs at each affiliate.
First, GS Caltex, upon hearing that critically ill patients are facing difficulties due to a sharp decline in blood donations caused by the COVID-19 situation, conducted a blood donation campaign in cooperation with the Korean Red Cross.
Since 2009, GS Engineering & Construction has been running the "Love Kimchi Sharing Volunteer Activity" program with the Namchon Foundation, and especially since 2013, Miss Korea finalists, GS E&C employees, and their families have participated, adding special meaning to the program.
GS Retail donated 10,000 KF94 health masks for vulnerable groups on December 1st in collaboration with the private relief organization "Hope Bridge" and the golf brand "Volvik."
GS Home Shopping provides jobs for socially vulnerable groups by selling products produced by social enterprises through its monthly "Making a Warm World" donation broadcasts. It also actively supports marginalized students through musical instrument support for low-income families, medical expense assistance, school uniform support projects, and university student volunteer groups.
