‘Construction of the National Naju Museum Digital Complex Cultural Center’ Project to Fully Launch Next Year
Design Cost Reflected at 930 Million Won
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The project to build the 'National Naju Museum Digital Complex Cultural Center' is expected to be in full swing starting next year.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 11th, 930 million KRW has been allocated for design costs next year for the construction of the digital complex cultural center at the National Naju Museum, and a total of 19.8 billion KRW in national funds will be invested by 2023 for its establishment.
Opened in November 2013 in Bannam-myeon, Naju, the National Naju Museum is an archaeology-specialized museum that preserves, researches, exhibits, and educates about the Mahan culture of the Yeongsan River basin.
It has established itself as an experiential cultural space that designs contemporary life through the restoration of Mahan society.
However, among the 13 museums affiliated with the National Museum of Korea, it was the only one without a complex cultural center.
Additionally, despite the increasing cultural demand, it faced difficulties in responding due to a lack of essential facilities such as performance halls and auditoriums necessary for education and cultural events, and the storage facilities reaching saturation.
Following the 'Special Act on the Maintenance of Historical and Cultural Areas' enacted in May, the province led the project by continuously requesting national funding from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Assembly to systematically maintain the Mahan historical culture area.

Kim Byung-joo, Director of Tourism, Culture and Sports Bureau of Jeonnam Province, said, "The National Naju Museum, which exhibits relics from the Mahan historical culture area, is a representative cultural space where one can understand and learn about Jeonnam's ancient Mahan culture. Starting with the construction of this complex cultural center, we plan to develop it into an experiential space providing various cultural contents to promote Mahan culture, including the establishment of a burial mound excavation hall."
