Incubation Period or Additional Infection? Kia Motors Gwangju Plant Employee Tests Positive After Self-Quarantine Release
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Two additional COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Among them, one person tested negative in a pre-release self-quarantine test and returned to daily life, but later tested positive in a voluntary test after feeling unwell, leaving health authorities baffled.
According to Gwangju City on the 10th, as of 2 p.m. that day, two new confirmed cases were reported, classified as Gwangju cases 774 and 775.
Case 774 is an employee of Kia Motors Gwangju Plant and is related to confirmed cases from the workplace sports club (soccer), while case 775's infection route is under investigation.
So far, there have been a total of 30 confirmed cases linked to the workplace sports club, including 6 related to Kia Motors Gwangju Plant with the addition of case 744.
Case 774 entered self-quarantine due to soccer club activities and tested negative in the pre-release test conducted on the last day of quarantine, April 4.
However, a few days later, experiencing symptoms such as fever, the individual voluntarily visited a screening clinic on the 9th and was confirmed positive.
It is known that the person worked at Kia Motors Gwangju Plant for several days before undergoing the second test.
Health authorities inspected the production line at Kia Motors Gwangju Plant, identified contacts of case 744, and conducted comprehensive testing on about 70 related colleagues and others.
Kia Motors has currently suspended operations of Plant 3, where case 744 is assigned.
