On this day, Deputy Prime Minister Hong made this statement in his opening remarks at the '2nd Global Innovation Growth Forum (GIGF 2020)'.
Hong explained, "We must promote digital and green innovation suitable for the post-COVID era," adding, "We plan not only to invest financially but also to improve outdated regulations and systems to align with the new economic and social structure, legally and institutionally supporting structural transformation."
He also emphasized the necessity of win-win innovation through cooperation. Hong said, "We will establish a strong public-private joint promotion system for win-win innovation in the so-called 'BIG3' industries consisting of future cars, bio-health, and system semiconductors," and "We plan to promote the transition of internal combustion engine parts companies to future cars and strengthen the cooperation system connecting demand companies, fabless, and foundries."
The theme of the discussions at GIGF 2020, held in a non-face-to-face format over two days from the 9th to the 10th, is 'Changes in Innovation Conditions and Response Strategies after COVID-19.' Starting with Deputy Prime Minister Hong's opening remarks and welcoming remarks by Victoria Kwakwa, Vice President of the World Bank, keynote speeches will be delivered by Vinton Cerf, Vice President of Google and recipient of the 'Turing Award,' known as the Nobel Prize in computer science, and Park Soo-kyung, Science and Technology Advisor to the Presidential Office, on Korea's COVID response and the Korean New Deal.
