Beacon Sensors Installed at 146 Locations in 8 Commercial Districts Including Garosugil and COEX... Customized Promotion Tools for Small Business Owners
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has renewed the ‘Our Store’ content on the ‘The Gangnam’ app, allowing anyone to view all information about local commercial districts at a glance and receive discount coupons since last month.
With this renewal, the district helps small business owners use it as a customized promotional tool they operate themselves, and enables users of the ‘The Gangnam’ app to enjoy various benefits.
Using IoT (Internet of Things)-based Bluetooth beacon (short-range wireless communication technology) sensors, when a ‘The Gangnam’ app user approaches a store, discount coupons or various information are automatically sent via push notifications.
Beacon sensors have been installed at 146 locations within eight commercial districts in the area, including ▲Garosugil ▲Gangnam Gaepo Market ▲Gangnam Station Yeomyeong-gil ▲Dogok Market ▲Samseong-dong Taste Street ▲Yeongdong Traditional Market ▲Eunma General Shopping Center ▲COEX.
Additionally, it offers a personalized service that recommends products to users based on their purchase history, so it is expected to provide useful information not only to small business owners but also to prospective entrepreneurs.
The district plans to secure the security of ‘Our Store’ by obtaining IoT security certification from the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) within this year.
Yoon Jong-min, Director of the Smart City Division, said, “We hope that ‘Our Store,’ equipped with smart technology, will help revitalize the local commercial districts that have been stagnated due to COVID-19, even if only a little. We will strive to make ‘Smart City Gangnam’ a leading policy in the post-COVID era.”
