Professor Park Jinsu's Paper from Chonnam National University Selected for Cover of Royal Society of Chemistry Journal
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Professor Park Jin-soo's paper from Chonnam National University has graced the cover of an international journal published by the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK.
According to Chonnam National University on the 27th, Professor Park (Department of Mechanical Engineering) recently developed a technology to control the chemical concentration of nanoliter-scale droplets within microfluidic chips by generating microscale acoustic streaming flow using ultrasonic band surface acoustic waves.
The research results were selected as the cover paper of issue 21 in 2020 of "Lab on a Chip" (impact factor 6.774, within the top 5% of JCR), a prestigious international journal in the field of microfluidics and microTAS published by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Professor Park has been leading this field by publishing research papers in microfluidics in previous years as well, including in 2016 (issues 4 and 17), 2017 (issue 6), and 2018 (issues 3 and 19).
Microfluidics technology is a core technology in the lab-on-a-chip field, which performs chemical, physics, biology, and biomedical experiments conducted in laboratories within coin-sized ultra-small microfluidic chips through microscale thermal and flow control.
This research was conducted as a joint study with the research team of Professor Sung Hyung-jin, Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Research Foundation’s Cardiovascular Patient-tailored Next-generation Precision Medical Technology Leading Research Center (Director Lee Dong-won, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Chonnam National University), and mid-career research funding.

Professor Park stated, “The chemical concentration control technology of droplets developed in this study presents a new paradigm for on-chip chemical concentration control in various microfluidic applications based on nano-droplets, such as droplet-based functional microcapsule fabrication, single-cell analysis within droplets, and drug screening.”
