Minister Park Young-sun "Active Support for System Semiconductor Startups"
On-site Meeting with Companies Utilizing ARM Semiconductor Design Assets
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, announced that she will actively support system semiconductor startups by enhancing commercialization, technology development, expanding policy funds, and nurturing talent to boost their competitiveness.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) held an 'ARM Semiconductor Design Asset Utilization Company On-site Meeting' on the 23rd at the system semiconductor startup 'Padu' located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The meeting was organized to share the achievements of startups utilizing ARM semiconductor design assets and to gather various opinions on the system semiconductor ecosystem from experts in demand companies and academia. In April, the Ministry signed a considerate corporate agreement with ARM and Seoul National University to support the growth of innovative system semiconductor companies, promising design package support and educational assistance to 10 domestic system semiconductor companies.
Among the 10 companies, five attended the meeting: Padu, Mobilint, Furiosa AI, MetaCNI, and DeepX. Minister Park first toured Padu’s research facilities testing key products and the semiconductor design site, then held a meeting with stakeholders in the system semiconductor ecosystem.
The participating startups are actively utilizing ARM semiconductor design assets to achieve product development results. 'Mobilint' developed a system semiconductor for central processing units (CPU) used in automobiles, and 'MetaCNI' developed semiconductors that process mobile display information. The startups requested the Ministry to expand funding support, nurture semiconductor design personnel, and develop overseas sales channels, emphasizing the need for full-cycle support from design to production and sales.
ARM and CoAsia pledged to focus their capabilities on developing the system semiconductor ecosystem. ARM operates the 'ARM FA Startup' program, which provides semiconductor design assets free of charge exclusively for startups, while CoAsia promised to support design service costs, market entry, and investment attraction.
