Despite the chilly weather, the village elders each place their chairs in front of their doors and gather to chat warmly. This place, named the "Garden Gallery Where Laughter Blooms," is decorated with colorful, pretty flower petals on the building, creating an illusion as if one is in a garden.
This place was not originally called a garden gallery. Although it was an old row house, it was a warm resting place for the grandmothers, and since January, it has started to become more lively and bright through the Our Neighborhood Art Museum Project.
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is revitalizing the alleys in the area. Since January, the district announced that it is carrying out the Our Neighborhood Art Museum Project to create everyday art spaces by utilizing neglected spaces.
The Our Neighborhood Art Museum Project selects target sites through resident proposals and creates art murals, sculptures, and landscape lighting suitable for each space. It is a public art project that provides pleasant spaces for residents by improving urban scenery and creating a safe environment.
In particular, 16 students from the art club of Songgok Girls' High School located in the area are participating, showcasing fresh ideas and talents, gaining high popularity among residents.
Moreover, the project has increased resident satisfaction by conducting non-face-to-face design workshops online, as well as reflecting various opinions through interviews and surveys.
The Our Neighborhood Art Museum Project started with "The Flow of Seasons in Jungnang" in Sangbong-dong and has been carried out in seven locations. Currently, a retaining wall gallery project by three public art artists is underway in Sinnae-dong with the themes of "Jungnang" and "Love."
