SK Engineering & Construction announced on the 12th that it held the awards ceremony for the construction technology contest ConTech Meet-Up Day, which was conducted for business partners (collaborating companies) and startups, on the 11th and announced a total of 10 winning entries. The ceremony was attended by about 30 officials, including Young-moon Lim, President of SK Engineering & Construction, Sung-kwang Yang, Chairman of the Research & Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation, Yoon-chul Lim, President of Technology & Value, and Gu-wook Lee, Group Leader of POSCO Technology Investment.
The contest was jointly judged by SK Engineering & Construction and the Research & Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation on technologies and ideas. Twenty companies passed the first document screening and proceeded to the second presentation round, and finally, 10 companies received excellence awards.
By category, there were ▲3 in eco-friendly ▲1 in new energy ▲2 in DT (Digital Transformation) ▲2 in Hi-Tech ▲1 in platform ▲1 in construction methods. SK Engineering & Construction plans to apply the technologies selected for excellence awards to projects it undertakes and provide various benefits such as technology commercialization and patent applications depending on the technology field.
The contest expanded its scope beyond architecture and housing to include technology fields such as eco-friendly and new energy. In the eco-friendly category, two companies, Monolis and ePlant, succeeded in winning awards with groundbreaking waste utilization ideas.
Monolis presented a technology idea to extract and recycle metals from industrial waste such as spent catalysts and used lithium secondary batteries, while ePlant proposed a technology to recycle waste plastics and vinyl waste into building materials and other products. Both technologies are evaluated as effective in strengthening ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by reducing waste disposal costs and solving environmental problems caused by waste.
SK Engineering & Construction has been practicing co-growth with small and medium-sized enterprises and developing innovative technologies through various technological collaborations with business partners. Since 2017, it has held idea contests for business partners to discover excellent ideas, and in July, it also established an R&D open platform to support technology development for business partners and startups in cooperation with public institutions and financial institutions.
