On the same day, President Moon presided over a senior secretaries and aides meeting at the Blue House and said in his opening remarks, "As an incomparable ally and a strong partner, our government will absolutely respect and support the choice of the American people." However, regarding the refusal movements by President Donald Trump's side, he added, "Although it may take some time until the official confirmation of the election results, I expect that the final process of the election will be well concluded based on the long-standing democratic tradition, rule of law, and mature civic consciousness of the United States."
President Moon said, "Myself and our government will further strengthen the Korea-US alliance with the next US administration and continue to develop the strong bond between the peoples of both countries," adding, "As a value-based alliance, we will unite our efforts in practicing shared values such as democracy, peace, human rights, international solidarity, and multilateral cooperation, and cooperate more closely on global issues such as overcoming COVID-19 and responding to the climate crisis."
He continued, "We will ensure that there is no gap in strengthening the Korea-US alliance and advancing the peace process on the Korean Peninsula," emphasizing, "We will do our best to ensure that the valuable achievements made with the Trump administration so far are well carried over and further developed by the next administration."
President Moon stated, "We will communicate in various ways with President-elect Biden and key figures preparing the new administration," and said, "Our government has a firm will to steadily pursue the peace process on the Korean Peninsula." He added, "The US Democratic Party government has experience in closely coordinating and cooperating with the Korean Democratic Party government on the peace process," and said, "Based on the accumulated achievements and experiences, learning from the past, we will pool wisdom to achieve greater progress in denuclearization and peace settlement on the Korean Peninsula."
President Moon expressed hope that "an environment will be created where new opportunities and solutions can be sought in inter-Korean relations," and said, "We are ready to actively work for a peaceful and prosperous Korean Peninsula while building a life and safety community on the Korean Peninsula." He further emphasized independent efforts, saying, "Along with strong cooperation between Korea and the US, I hope that South and North Korea, as parties to the Korean Peninsula issue, will play an even more important role."
President Moon said, "Another pillar of the strong Korea-US alliance is solid economic cooperation," and added, "We will continue to strengthen bilateral and multilateral trade cooperation with the US and move toward greater economic cooperation." In particular, he noted, "The carbon neutrality and climate change response policies emphasized by President-elect Biden align with our government's carbon neutrality goals and Green New Deal policies, so there is great potential for cooperation," adding, "I hope that similar value orientations and policy commonalities will serve as the foundation for opening the post-COVID era together."
Referring to the global COVID-19 confirmed cases exceeding 50 million, he said, "It is very fortunate that the number of domestic infections in our country is controlled at around 100," and urged, "While reaffirming the excellence of K-quarantine, we must not let our guard down." He emphasized, "Recently, cluster infections in crowded and enclosed places and silent transmissions in gatherings of acquaintances have been continuously occurring, so we cannot lower our vigilance."
