[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed confidence that President-elect Joe Biden, who secured victory in the U.S. presidential election, will successfully lead the era's mission of promoting world peace in a congratulatory letter.
In the letter released on the 9th by the Ban Ki-moon Foundation, former Secretary-General Ban stated, "Many Koreans believe that Your Excellency is a true friend of Korea and the Korean people," adding, "I would like to say that I am one of them. The Korea-U.S. alliance began as a military alliance forged in blood and has developed into a comprehensive value alliance. Under Your Excellency's leadership, I hope it will achieve a higher level of development as an even stronger alliance."
He also mentioned, "I cherish the memories of working together with Your Excellency, who was then Vice President, for world peace and prosperity during my tenure as UN Secretary-General," and added, "Personally, I am confident that Your Excellency's leadership will lead the era's mission of promoting world peace, as well as the prosperity of the United States, to great success."

Former Secretary-General Ban especially welcomed the announcement of the intention to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement, from which the Donald Trump administration had withdrawn. He said, "I wholeheartedly welcome the declaration of a swift return to the climate change agreement," and added, "Starting with this, I believe the United States will restore its leading leadership in the international community, strengthen multilateralism together with the UN, wisely overcome the crises facing humanity, and be able to pass on a better future to our descendants."
