Gwangju Seo-gu Leads Creation of Enjoyable Senior Centers with 'Wi-Fi Education'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) is taking the lead in creating senior centers where the elderly can enjoy a fulfilling life.
Seo-gu announced on the 27th that it is conducting smartphone and informatization education to ensure smooth use of public Wi-Fi installed in senior centers to enhance the leisure activities of the elderly.
Earlier, the district started installing internet and public Wi-Fi in senior centers from August through an agreement with KT, the first of its kind in the region. Installation has been completed in all 230 senior centers in the district this month.
With social distancing eased to level 1 and senior centers reopening, smartphone education at senior centers is being promoted in cooperation with KT Seo Gwangju Branch according to the agreement.
The education is conducted by two dedicated teams visiting senior centers directly, teaching the elderly basic smartphone usage and how to use YouTube, among other topics.

Seo-gu plans to provide smartphone education to all senior centers within this year and continue re-education for smartphone users next year in cooperation with KT, ensuring that many elderly people are not left out of information utilization.
