Yeosu City Selected for Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs' 'Regional Food Plan Establishment Support Project' Competition
Secured 65 Million KRW in National and Provincial Funds to Establish a Local Food Circulation System Using Regional Agricultural Products
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 27th that it has been finally selected for the ‘2021 Regional Food Plan Establishment Support Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
According to the city, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs selected 15 metropolitan and basic local governments nationwide through a public contest, and Yeosu City will receive 65 million KRW in national and provincial funds to be used for research service expenses as a result of this selection.
The food plan, promoted as a government innovation leading project, is a business that establishes a circular system linking the entire process of food production, processing, distribution, as well as consumption, dietary life, nutrition, and waste.
Yeosu City plans to analyze the status of local food through research services next year and establish a customized regional food plan by deriving food strategy tasks, organizing farming households, and promoting planned production through the establishment and operation of food plan governance.
Once the food plan is established, it is expected to bring about a revolutionary change in the overall food system through the development of a customized regional agricultural product planned production model desired by the region, the spread of local food, and the creation of a safe food environment.

A city official said, “The first task for the success of the food plan is to stably supply fresh and safe food,” adding, “We will establish a food plan suitable for our city to realize various social values such as ensuring safe food supply, increasing income for small and medium farmers, and guaranteeing food without discrimination by considering vulnerable groups and marginalized areas.”
