[2020 National Audit] Choo Mi-ae: "Prosecutor General Yoon's Audit Remarks Are Partly Anti-Democratic"
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae strongly criticized some remarks made by Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol to the public during the recent Supreme Prosecutors' Office audit, calling them "undesirable and anti-democratic."
On the 26th, Minister Chu appeared at the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee's audit of the Ministry of Justice and responded this way when Park Beom-gye, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, asked, "Is the prosecution of the Republic of Korea the prosecution of Yoon Seok-yeol, Han Dong-hoon, and Park Chan-ho?"
On that day, Rep. Park questioned regarding prosecution personnel, "Does Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol only have Han Dong-hoon and Park Chan-ho? Are the numerous prosecutors nationwide invisible?" In response, Minister Chu said, "The Prosecutor General must lead the entire prosecution organization to be reborn to uphold human rights and justice," adding, "Nevertheless, I regret and apologize that some of the words the Prosecutor General conveyed to the public during the audit were undesirable and anti-democratic."
Minister Chu also pointed out that Prosecutor General Yoon's political remarks were "quite imprudent." When Kim Yong-min, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, mentioned, "Prosecutor General Yoon did not deny political-related questions during the last audit," and "As someone who must maintain political neutrality, the entire prosecution organization is now in a situation where it can be suspected," she added, "It was quite an imprudent remark."
