SK Hynix Builds Bakery Factory to Expand Employment for People with Disabilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] SK Hynix is establishing a ‘Bakery Factory for the Disabled’ through its subsidiary-type standard workplace for the disabled, Haengbokmoa Co., Ltd. This initiative aims to create jobs for people with disabilities and support their economic independence to realize social value.
On the 21st, SK Hynix announced that it signed a business agreement on ‘Realizing Social Value through Expanding Employment for the Disabled’ with SPC Samlip, SPC Happy Foundation, Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, and Haengbokmoa Co., Ltd. at the Management Support Building of its headquarters in Icheon.
Haengbokmoa Co., Ltd. will invest a total of 40 billion KRW, including 30 billion KRW capital increase received from SK Hynix last August, into the construction and operation of the bakery factory. SK Hynix will provide bread and cookies produced at this factory as convenient meals in its company cafeterias.
SPC Samlip and SPC Happy Foundation will support stable operation by providing consulting for the establishment, operation, and quality improvement of SK Hynix’s bakery factory based on their bakery expertise. They will also regularly conduct bakery skill training for employees to support the independence of people with disabilities. The Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled will develop suitable job roles for the factory and provide employment services for people with disabilities, including recruitment and customized training.
Since its establishment in 2016, Haengbokmoa Co., Ltd. has operated businesses manufacturing and laundering dustproof clothing and accessories, employing about 240 people with disabilities. For the operation of this bakery factory, approximately 160 additional employees have been hired. Accordingly, the ratio of employees with disabilities to the total regular workforce at SK Hynix reaches 3.4%, exceeding the statutory mandatory employment rate of 3.1% by the end of this year.

Park Ho-hyun, Vice President in charge of the Haengbokmoa2 TF at SK Hynix, said, “From the second half of next year, the bakery factory will provide convenient meals for more than 28,000 SK Hynix employees,” adding, “In particular, this is a good example of realizing social value by promoting employment stability and economic independence for people with disabilities through cooperation between different companies.”
