Health-Friendly UV Coatings Used for Kitchen Furniture and Built-In Furniture
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Gangnam Jevisco Co., Ltd. announced on the 15th that it has developed and started selling wood UV coatings with flame retardant and antibacterial functions.
Wood UV coatings are generally used not only for furniture such as kitchen cabinets like sinks, dressing rooms, and built-in wardrobes, but also for musical instruments and interior wall surfaces, making their applications diverse.
The newly improved Jevisco wood UV coating is applied through an automated process where a UV primer is first coated on materials such as MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and PB (Particle Board) treated with LPM (Low Pressure Melamine), followed by recoating with UV coating. This allows for mass production and is highly praised for its excellent workability.
In particular, the flame retardant function delays the spread of flames in case of fire, increasing evacuation time and thereby reducing casualties. Additionally, by minimizing TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) emissions through its own management equipment, it meets the health-friendly housing construction standards under the Housing Act.
Moreover, kitchen furniture is an environment prone to bacteria and mold growth due to frequent contact with moisture and food. Jevisco’s functional UV coating demonstrated excellent antibacterial properties with a 99.99% bacteria reduction rate in the film adhesion antibacterial test (JIS Z 2801:2000).
