Selection of Companies Advancing to the Finals of the 'Dae-Star' Problem Solver Platform Phase 1 Contest
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry) announced on the 13th that it has selected 43 startups to present solutions to problems proposed by large corporations in the final stage of the first 'Dae-Star Solver Platform' contest.
The 'Dae-Star Solver Platform' is a policy promoted to create an ecosystem where large corporations and startups can grow together through open innovation. The first phase, which began on July 30, focused on six key areas representing the post-COVID era, presenting problems from large corporations as tasks and selecting startups to solve them. A total of 208 startups participated, and through a second round of in-depth face-to-face evaluations in September by task, 43 startups were selected.
Regarding the second round of in-depth face-to-face evaluations by task, 'Base drama viewership prediction' proposed various methodologies for the fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and broadcasting, including intuitive and exploratory data analysis for viewership prediction and decision support at each production stage. 'Development of OLED-applied content' received positive evaluations for attempts to increase added value using OLED as a platform, such as jewelry commerce and women's fashion live commerce based on big data and augmented reality (AR) technology.
For 'Development of immersive virtual reality (VR) services in the performance sector,' many capable startups participated, expected to help create an ecosystem in the performance field through VR solution development. 'Maximizing the vividness of mobile baseball broadcasting' attracted attention with technologies that extract and visualize pitching and batting data in real time and AI-based pitcher pitch type prediction, which are ready for immediate commercialization.
'Development of a sensor to identify the taste of jjambbong' presented problem-solving methods feasible through various technologies such as wireless communication, AI video analysis, and spectroscopy, showing new possibilities in the food tech sector. 'Design of a T-map-based integrated traffic system' was evaluated as contributing to the creation of software infrastructure for future vehicles by proposing optimal routes connecting various modes of transportation and real-time route suggestions designed with neural networks.
'AI-based patient condition analysis' confirmed the full-scale application of AI in the bio sector, with many startups possessing sufficient capabilities participating, raising expectations for successful outcomes. 'Development of secondary eco-friendly packaging for cosmetics' and 'Development of alternative materials for brown beer PET bottles' were problems proposed to address environmental issues caused by the surge in plastic consumption alongside the expansion of online transactions due to COVID-19. Although these attracted much attention, only 4 out of 19 startups advanced to the final evaluation due to technological limitations.

The final competition will be held separately by task by November, considering the characteristics and technologies used in each task, and the technologies and ideas of the final winners will be revealed at the 'Dae-Star Solver Performance Sharing Conference' in early December. In this contest, up to three startups per task will be selected on the premise of collaboration with the demand-side large corporations, and the selected startups can receive up to 2.5 billion KRW in government support, including commercialization support (100 million KRW), technology development (up to 400 million KRW), and technology special guarantee (up to 2 billion KRW). They will also have opportunities to pursue joint projects with large corporations and expand globally using overseas networks.
