[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus is partnering with Mando to promote a cloud-based outdoor autonomous driving robot business.
On the 8th, LG Uplus announced that it signed a business agreement with Mando for the '5G Outdoor Autonomous Driving Robot Business.' Through this collaboration, the two companies will focus on showcasing cloud-based outdoor autonomous driving robots using 5G communication and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) technology. To this end, they will cooperate on ▲linking robots with 5G and MEC infrastructure ▲building ultra-low latency video monitoring solutions ▲cloud-based robot computing ▲and demonstrating outdoor autonomous driving robot technology.
According to the agreement, Mando's outdoor autonomous patrol robot 'Goli' will be linked with LG Uplus's 5G communication, MEC infrastructure, and remote monitoring solutions. Demonstrations will be conducted starting this year at Siheung Baegot Life Park, and they plan to cooperate for commercialization of patrol robots by enhancing service functions through Internet of Things (IoT) integration in the future.
Cloud-based outdoor autonomous driving robots operate data processing and monitoring systems requiring complex calculations on the cloud, improving cost, operational efficiency, and performance.
Cho Won-seok, Executive Vice President of LG Uplus's Enterprise New Business Group, said, "By utilizing MEC technology, we can secure the core of autonomous driving robots, 'ultra-low latency,' and provide high-spec functions such as video analysis at low cost." He added, "We expect that the scope of robot applications and business opportunities will expand further through 5G communication and MEC technology."
