[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University staff members have delivered scholarships to currently enrolled students who are striving to overcome COVID-19.
According to Chosun University on the 27th, recently the staff, centered around the Staff Labor Union, conducted a student scholarship fundraising campaign throughout September to support overcoming COVID-19.
The amount raised through this campaign is approximately 200 million KRW, and the funds will be used as tuition fee reductions to help overcome COVID-19.
The scholarship award ceremony was attended by President Min Youngdon, Yang Goseung, Chairperson of the Staff Labor Union, Vice Chairperson Kim Gwangwon, Student Council President Kim Junyeon, Vice President Park Hanyeong, and Director of External Cooperation Kim Bongcheol, among others.
Chairperson Yang Goseung said, “Everyone is working hard with online non-face-to-face classes and quarantine activities, but we are well aware that the students have deep worries and concerns about an uncertain future,” adding, “I hope this scholarship conveys the heartfelt concern and support everyone has for the students.”
In response, Student Council President Kim Junyeon stated, “On behalf of the students, I express gratitude and respect to the staff members who voluntarily donated funds to overcome COVID-19.”
Meanwhile, since early 2020 when COVID-19 began to spread, Chosun University has carried out various donation campaigns to help students and the local community facing difficulties due to the sudden infectious disease crisis.
Last April, President Min Youngdon and key officials such as heads of departments donated a portion of their salaries to the university’s student fund for overcoming COVID-19. The Staff Labor Union also conducted a fundraising campaign among members to support the local community in hardship, which was donated to the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea.
Additionally, in June, Chosun University provided 200 million KRW in Cheongsong Scholarships to 400 students struggling due to the COVID-19 situation. Under the leadership of the Chosun University Faculty Council, a ‘COVID-19 Overcoming Student Love Scholarship’ donation campaign was launched, and the collected funds were given as scholarships to students.
In August, the university made headlines as the first university in the Honam region to provide all enrolled students with a ‘COVID-19 Special Scholarship’ amounting to up to approximately 11% of their tuition fees.
