Authorities criticized it as a clear act of Islamist terrorism.
Earlier, about an hour after the incident, the police apprehended the suspect who wielded the weapon and fled, as well as a 33-year-old man of unidentified nationality who was with him at the scene, at different locations and handed them over to the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office.
Two victims injured by the suspect's knife were a man in his 30s and a woman, both reported to be in stable condition. The two were working at a nearby broadcasting station, Premi?re Ligne, and were attacked while smoking on the street.
G?rald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, described the incident as a "clear act of Islamist terrorism" and called it "another brutal terrorist attack against our country and our journalists."
Minister Darmanin revealed that the suspect who wielded the weapon came alone from Pakistan to France three years ago and was not under terrorist surveillance.
