Gyeonggi-do, 85 Water Leisure Safety Violations Detected on Nam and Bukhan Rivers
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has caught water leisure businesses and users operating water leisure equipment without a license or carrying more passengers than the capacity on the Namhan River and Bukhan River areas.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that, from July 11 to August 31, it conducted joint crackdowns with the Incheon and Pyeongtaek Coast Guard stations and city and county governments targeting safety violation offenders around the Namhan and Bukhan River water leisure business sites, resulting in the detection of a total of 85 violations of the Water Leisure Safety Act.
The main violations include ▲14 cases of unregistered businesses ▲12 cases of unlicensed operation ▲7 cases of business operators violating safety compliance obligations ▲5 cases of unregistered navigation ▲24 cases of not wearing life jackets ▲7 cases of no insurance subscription ▲2 cases of unregistered equipment ▲and 12 other cases.
In one violation case, Mr. A visited Bukhan River in Gapyeong to enjoy water leisure during the summer but was caught by the crackdown team for operating a water motorcycle without a power water leisure equipment operator’s license issued by the Korea Coast Guard. Mr. A faces up to one year imprisonment or a fine of up to 10 million won for violating Article 20 of the Water Leisure Safety Act.
The B water leisure business located in Namyangju must comply with the designated passenger capacity when boarding passengers on equipment, but it operated a motorboat with a capacity of 5 by boarding 7 passengers. Accordingly, this business is expected to be subject to up to six months imprisonment or a fine of up to 5 million won for violating Article 48, Paragraph 2 of the Water Leisure Safety Act.
