Located on the coast at the Nakdong River estuary, this area has been severely affected by two typhoons, Maishen and Haishen, as well as heavy rainfall.
Every time heavy rainfall like typhoons occurs, debris flows into the Nakdong River estuary embankment and Dadaepo Beach, causing environmental pollution and odor problems.
Saha-gu complained about bearing the cost of collecting debris that drifts in from other nearby cities, counties, and districts near the Nakdong River.
The meeting was attended by residents and fishermen representatives, Saha-gu Office, Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, Nakdong River Basin Management Office, Busan Maritime Police Agency, and other related agencies.
Chairperson Jeon listened to the grievances of residents and fishermen suffering from COVID-19 and typhoon and heavy rainfall damages, and sought solutions on-site.
Residents of the Nakdong River basin, including coastal fishermen, expressed difficulties regarding threats to their livelihoods caused by COVID-19 and typhoon damages.
They requested solutions to the recurring problem of debris inflow into the breakwater during heavy rainfall and typhoons.
The Commission plans to request related agencies to stably support budgets for debris collection along the coast using special funds and other resources.
Chairperson Jeon said, "Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, we plan to actively work to comfort residents who are striving to recover from typhoon damages and to resolve their grievances."
