Gwangju Bank Joins 'Mudeungsan Watermelon Saving Campaign'
Purchase of Watermelon for 10 Million Won
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Bank (President Song Jong-wook) announced on the 18th that it participated in the ‘Saving Mudeungsan Watermelon Campaign’ event on the 17th and purchased a total of 10 million KRW worth of Mudeungsan watermelons.
At the purchase event, Gwangju Bank President Song Jong-wook, Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and other officials attended, gathering their will for mutual development to revitalize the local economy through the purchase of Mudeungsan watermelons.
Mudeungsan watermelons, which are on the verge of extinction due to aging production workforce and decreasing production volume, have seen declining sales every year, adding to the difficulties faced by the farming households. Moreover, this year, damage caused by heavy rains further complicated the harvest.
Accordingly, Gwangju Bank purchases Mudeungsan watermelons annually to alleviate the difficulties of the farming households, and this year as well, it purchased 10 million KRW worth of watermelons, reflecting on the significance of saving Mudeungsan watermelons together with its executives and employees.
Gwangju Bank President Song Jong-wook said, “As a representative bank of Gwangju and Jeonnam, we participated in this ‘Saving Mudeungsan Watermelon Campaign’ with the spirit of overcoming the region’s difficulties together,” adding, “We will do our best to fulfill the corporate social responsibility to invigorate the local economy.”
Meanwhile, last month, as heavy rains caused continuous damage in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, Gwangju Bank swiftly injected emergency management stabilization funds totaling 100 billion KRW, with a limit of 300 million KRW per company, to support the rapid restoration of damaged facilities and ease financial burdens for small and medium-sized enterprises and self-employed businesses.
