CJ CheilJedang Launches New 'Baeksul Dangmyeon' to Match Expanding 'Home Meal' Trend
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] CJ CheilJedang is newly launching ‘Baeksul Dangmyeon’ as a preferred product for consumers in line with the expanding ‘home-cooked meal’ trend.
On the 18th, CJ CheilJedang announced the release of a new flat-shaped dangmyeon product, ‘Baeksul Daewang Napjak Dangmyeon,’ which was previously enjoyed mainly in dining-out settings, and also renewed its existing premium dangmyeon product as ‘Baeksul 100% Korean Dangmyeon.’
The new product, ‘Baeksul Daewang Napjak Dangmyeon,’ features wider and thicker dangmyeon than regular ones, with seasoning absorption and a chewy, springy texture. Most thick dangmyeon products on the market require soaking from the day before, but this product can be used in cooking after soaking in lukewarm water for at least 30 minutes. It is also more convenient as it comes in a ‘cut dangmyeon’ form and is packaged in a zipper bag for easy storage.
‘Baeksul Daewang Napjak Dangmyeon’ actively reflects recent changes in consumer trends. While dangmyeon was mainly used at home for dishes like japchae, recently, more consumers are cooking with various types and thicknesses of dangmyeon popular in dining-out, such as Chinese-style dangmyeon, flat dangmyeon, and sari dangmyeon. The variety of dining-out menus featuring dangmyeon, such as unique tteokbokki and mala tang, is increasing, and mukbang content remains popular.
Along with the launch of the new product reflecting the ‘home-cooked meal’ trend, the existing Chuseok peak season product ‘Baeksul 100% Korean New Dangmyeon’ has been renewed and launched as ‘Baeksul 100% Korean Dangmyeon.’ Unlike other products on the market, this premium product is made using 100% domestic sweet potato starch, and the product name and package design were changed to emphasize the use of domestic ingredients. Interest in domestic ingredients is especially high during holidays, so a positive response is expected.
Both ‘Baeksul Daewang Napjak Dangmyeon’ and ‘Baeksul 100% Korean Dangmyeon’ do not contain additives commonly used in dangmyeon such as potassium aluminum sulfate (alum), sodium alginate, and xanthan gum, making them safer to consume. The prices are 2,980 KRW (300g) for ‘Baeksul Daewang Napjak Dangmyeon,’ and 5,400 KRW (400g) and 2,900 KRW (100g) for ‘Baeksul 100% Korean Dangmyeon.’

A CJ CheilJedang official said, “Due to changes in consumer trends, dangmyeon consumption, which was limited to holidays, is increasing even during regular months.
