Issuance of 3 Billion Won in Gangbuk Sarang Gift Certificates

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) will issue an additional 3 billion KRW worth of Gangbuk Love Gift Certificates to overcome the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and increase sales for small business owners.
The gift certificates will be issued in three denominations: 10,000 KRW, 50,000 KRW, and 100,000 KRW.
A 10% discount is applied within a monthly limit of 700,000 KRW per person, and a 30% income deduction benefit is also available.
From 10 a.m. on September 21, up to 2 million KRW can be purchased through 14 apps including ▲Beeple Zero Pay ▲Check Pay ▲Money Tree ▲Fint ▲Fink ▲Payco ▲T-money Pay ▲Seulbaesaeng ▲Gwangju Bank ▲Nonghyup ▲Busan Bank ▲Daegu Bank ▲Gyeongnam Bank ▲Jeonbuk Bank.
The gift certificates can be used at over 7,500 Zero Pay affiliated stores within the region. However, usage is restricted at some large stores and entertainment/luxury businesses.
The usage method is the same as the existing Zero Pay system. Consumers can scan the QR code displayed at affiliated stores or have the store’s device recognize the QR code on the consumer’s phone. The validity period is five years from issuance.

Mayor Park Kyum-soo of Gangbuk-gu said, “This project can serve as a catalyst to restore the local economy damaged by COVID-19,” and added, “We will strive to ensure the smooth establishment of Gangbuk Love Gift Certificates, which help revitalize local commercial districts and increase sales for small business owners.”
Earlier, the district first introduced Gangbuk Love Gift Certificates worth 3 billion KRW in January this year, followed by additional sales of 2 billion KRW in May and 5 billion KRW in July.

Additionally, the district is promoting the enactment of the “Ordinance on the Issuance and Operation of Gangbuk Love Gift Certificates in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul” to establish a distribution base and activate usage of the gift certificates.
