Gwanak-gu Wins Grand Prize at the 'Korea Knowledge Awards'
Achieving Various Outcomes Including Business Innovation, Social Value Implementation, and Response to the 4th Industrial Revolution
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) won the Grand Prize (Prime Minister's Award) at the 9th Korea Knowledge Awards in 2020.
The "Korea Knowledge Awards" is the highest domestic award for knowledge administration and management, given to institutions that create innovation based on a new paradigm of knowledge administration and management, enhancing Korea's competitiveness.
Hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, it has been promoted targeting local governments, public institutions, and private companies, and this year marked its 9th edition.
A total of 62 institutions competed fiercely for the 2020 Knowledge Awards, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's judging committee selected 21 final awardees through a rigorous process including document screening, public voting, and presentation evaluation.
The district reorganized its knowledge administration system based on the core values of district administration: "innovation, inclusion, and cooperation." It operated Gwanakcheong (聽), a policy advisory group, a smart living lab, and an innovation policy research group, and was evaluated to have produced achievements in various fields such as work innovation, realization of social value, and response to the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Above all, the institution head's will to promote innovative administration and the creative and proactive cooperative activities based on communication emphasized by the 7th elected Gwanak-gu received high marks.
In particular, after passing the first expert document screening, it received 4,110 votes in the second public vote open to all citizens, ranking first among 21 institutions and gaining public sympathy for knowledge administration.
The district is promoting knowledge administration suitable for changing administration, such as innovation in working methods, interdepartmental collaboration, and various public-private cooperation processes.
It is creating productive administration by expanding the breadth and depth of citizen participation through the highest advisory body, the "Together Best Gwanak Innovation Cooperation Committee," the "Policy Advisory Group" that incorporates daily ideas into district administration 365 days a year, and the "Online Public Forum" that collects residents' opinions and holds discussions on local community issues.
Gwanakcheong (聽), the first pledge implementation office of the 7th elected term located on the first floor of the district office, shows the mayor's will to communicate directly with residents, and "Mobile Gwanakcheong" and "Online Gwanakcheong" are also used as communication channels for any resident to participate in district administration.
During the 7th elected term, Gwanak-gu has achieved outstanding results in external evaluations, winning over 130 awards including ▲2019 Manifesto Best Practice Competition "Grand Prize," ▲2019 Government Innovation Evaluation "Excellent Institution," and ▲2019 "Local Autonomy CEO of the Year Award."
