[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Lotte Homeshopping announced on the 17th that it has introduced a peer praise program called 'Belly Good' to revitalize the organization’s atmosphere, which has been stagnant due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and to foster a positive internal culture through mutual compliments.
'Belly Good' is an untact communication program where employees write and register the name and reason for praising or thanking a colleague on the company’s internal portal, and the company awards cookies (points) to the respective employee. Cookies can be converted into reward points usable on Lotte Homeshopping’s online shopping mall. Beyond simply being a 'bonus given by colleagues,' the program was introduced to create an organizational culture based on voluntary communication, empathy, mutual respect, and cooperation. It was also intended to invigorate the internal atmosphere as opportunities for communication among employees decreased due to the implementation of remote work amid COVID-19. The program benchmarks Google’s ‘Peer Bonus’ system, and the name ‘Belly Good’ is a combination of Lotte Homeshopping’s character ‘Belly’ and the word ‘Good.’
Since its introduction on the 5th of last month, about 600 praise posts have been posted over approximately 40 days until the day before yesterday. Thirty percent of all employees participated, and the number of participants continues to increase. By rank, team leaders most frequently praised their subordinates, followed by staff and assistant managers. Various cases were posted, ranging from praise for colleagues who took the lead during project execution to expressions of gratitude for executives who personally prepared lunch boxes for employees who came to work during the remote work period.
