BTS Rises to No. 2 on Billboard Singles Chart... Gaining Momentum on US Radio
'Dynamite' Shows Continued Popularity with Little Change in Rankings
Ranks 2nd on 'Billboard Global 200'... Leads in Digital Sales
The group BTS's "Dynamite" continued to perform well in the United States during its third week (April 4?10) after release. On the 14th (local time), Billboard reported that "Dynamite" ranked 2nd on the main singles chart, the "Hot 100." Although it dropped from the top spot to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's "WAP," it demonstrated steady popularity without significant ranking changes.
Previously, the song topped the "Hot 100" chart in its first and second weeks. This was the first time a Korean artist reached number one on this chart. Debuting at number one and maintaining the top position for two consecutive weeks is a feat achieved by only about twenty songs in Billboard history. The "Hot 100" is a weekly chart that ranks the most popular songs in the U.S., based on streaming performance, digital sales, and radio airplay. It is considered more competitive than the main album chart, the "Billboard 200," and presents higher barriers for non-English songs.
In its third week, "Dynamite" was streamed 13.3 million times in the U.S., a decrease of about 24% from 17.5 million streams in the second week. Downloads (digital sales) also dropped by 25%, from 182,000 to 136,000. However, Billboard expressed surprise, noting that "this is the first song since The Chainsmokers and Halsey's 'Closer' in September 2016 to record over 136,000 downloads for three consecutive weeks after release."
In fact, "Dynamite" led the "Digital Song Sales" chart for three consecutive weeks, powered by its strong download numbers. It also showed an upward trend on U.S. mainstream radio. The number of listeners increased by 14% from 16 million in the second week to 18.3 million. Thanks to this, it entered the top 50 (49th place) for the first time on the "Radio Songs" chart, which ranks songs based on radio airplay across all genres.
"Dynamite" is loved not only in the U.S. but also worldwide. It ranked 2nd on the newly established "Billboard Global 200," which Billboard introduced this week to select the most popular songs globally. This chart ranks songs based on streaming and download data collected from over 200 regions worldwide. "Dynamite" recorded 83.4 million streams and 36,000 downloads, leading in digital sales alone.
