Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Issues Reinstatement Order for Teacher Dismissed by KTU Authority
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education has issued a reinstatement order for a teacher who was dismissed by the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (KTU) without due process.
On the 15th, the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it had canceled the dismissal order for the teacher from the KTU who was dismissed without due process and issued a reinstatement order.
This follows the Supreme Court's ruling on the 3rd that the designation of the KTU as an illegal union was unlawful.
The Gwangju Office of Education reinstated teacher Jeong Seonghong, who was dismissed without due process in February 2016 due to the Park Geun-hye administration's decision that the KTU was 'not a union,' back to his original school, Sinyong Middle School, on the 14th, along with canceling the dismissal order.
Regarding the administrative and financial damages suffered due to the unfair dismissal, efforts will be made to restore the situation after further review.
Teacher Jeong Seonghong commented on the cancellation of the dismissal order, saying, "The Supreme Court ruled that the Park Geun-hye administration's unjust oppression was unlawful," and added, "Although delayed, I am relieved that the path to restoration has opened."
