Operation of Non-Face-to-Face Phone Order Direct Market from 14th to 23rd with Direct Delivery of Mountain Products... Selling 23 Agricultural and Specialty Products Including Red Pepper Powder, Hanwoo Beef, Fruits, Dried Persimmons, Dried Yellow Corvina, Rice Cakes, Korean Sweets, and Salted Seafood
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) will hold a non-face-to-face direct transaction market for Chuseok from the 14th to the 23rd in celebration of the traditional Korean holiday.
This market will include participation from a total of 16 local governments, including Mapo-gu's sister cities Gochang-gun, Cheongyang-gun, Sinan-gun, Yecheon-gun, Gokseong-gun, as well as Gangwon-do and Naju-si.
Every year, before the holiday, Mapo-gu has held a direct transaction market at the Mapo-gu Office plaza so that residents can easily purchase high-quality domestic agricultural and specialty products.
However, this year, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the direct transaction market will be conducted in a non-face-to-face manner.
Buyers place orders by phone, and sellers deliver the products directly from the production site to the buyers.
The products for sale include a total of 23 specialty and agricultural products such as red pepper powder, Korean beef, Naju pears, apples, dried persimmons, Yeonggwang dried yellow corvina, Hampyeong rice cakes, traditional Korean sweets, Imsil cheese, honey (stick type), and salted seafood, all available at prices lower than market rates.
In particular, premium products such as Gochang red pepper powder, which is also exported to Japan, Hampyeong rice cakes made from 100% domestic ingredients, and special-grade Yeonggwang dried yellow corvina, along with various ancestral ritual items and popular products, are abundantly prepared.
Those wishing to purchase can check the products through the Mapo-gu website or promotional materials available at the 16 community service centers, then place orders by phone with the Mapo-gu Regional Economy Division.
The district expects that this non-face-to-face direct transaction market will provide producers with opportunities to expand sales channels and offer buyers fresh agricultural and specialty products delivered directly from the production site at prices lower than market rates.

Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “As we approach the busy Chuseok season, it is expected that Chinese-made ancestral ritual items will be widely distributed in the market. This is an opportunity to help farmers who are facing greater difficulties due to the spread of COVID-19 and recent wind and flood damage, and to purchase fresh goods at prices lower than market rates. We ask for the residents’ active interest and participation.”
