Seocho-gu Youth Artists' Haven 'Seoripul Youth Art Town' to Open
Specialized Spaces for Young Artists Including Musical Instrument Performance and Shared Community Areas... Application Open from September 21 to 29 (Resident Recruitment Announcement on 14th), 29 Units Selected for Move-in Scheduled in January Next Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) is recruiting residents for the 'Seoripul Youth Art Town,' a 'customized rental housing' for the residential stability of 'young artists,' starting from the 14th.
Seocho-gu, which has supported young artists by expanding performance opportunities to create jobs for youth and providing creative and exhibition spaces through the Seoripul Youth Art Center and Youth Art Gallery, has now established the 'Seoripul Youth Art Town' to alleviate the biggest burden for young people: housing concerns.
To this end, Seocho-gu and Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) signed the 'Seoripul Youth Art Town Business Agreement' on the 31st of last month. Through this agreement, they will actively cooperate to ensure smooth housing supply operations and continuous residential support for young artists.
Considering the spread of COVID-19, this agreement was signed through a non-face-to-face written process without a separate ceremony.
Construction began in December last year, and the Seoripul Youth Art Town, completed in June this year, is located near the Seocho Music and Culture District in Seocho-dong (59-16 Banpodaero 9-gil, Seocho-gu, and 88-7 Nambusunhwan-ro 315-gil, Seocho-gu). It consists of two buildings with 1 to 5 floors, totaling 29 units, with supply areas ranging from 24.11㎡ (7.3 pyeong) to 32.38㎡ (9.8 pyeong).
Inside the housing, to minimize the economic burden on resident youth, individual heating and cooling systems, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, and other appliances are installed. Specialized spaces supporting young artists, such as a practice room for musical instrument playing (exclusive for residents) and communal community spaces, are also provided.
The 'Seoripul Youth Art Town' is a Seoul city demand-tailored public rental housing supplied through cooperation between Seocho-gu and SH Corporation to ensure stable residence and enhance the happiness of young artists with vulnerable self-reliance foundations.
SH Corporation purchases the housing, and the local government comprehensively considers the community environment and resident demand to select and operate tenants independently. This rental housing project is promoted to best suit young artists in the cultural and artistic city of Seocho-gu.
So far, the district has been supporting young artists not only with housing but also with jobs, creative activities, and spaces amid difficulties caused by COVID-19. Various untact cultural performances such as 'Seoripul Youth Live,' 'Seocho Chamber Music Festival,' and 'Seoripul Culture Class' have been held. Additionally, the 'Seoripul Youth Gallery Cafe Support Project' operates by providing exhibition spaces in local cafes to display works by young artists and support their activity expenses.
In particular, the 'Seoripul Youth Art Center' offers free practice spaces, and the 'Seoripul Youth Art Gallery' provides exhibition spaces to young artists.
Eligibility for residency includes young artists aged 19 to 39 residing in Seoul, who are members of a household without homeownership and whose average monthly income of urban workers in the previous year is 70% or less.
Residency is allowed for up to two people, including the applicant, and the rental period ranges from 2 years up to a maximum of 6 years.
The recruitment announcement starts on the 14th.
