Gwangju Dong-gu Achieves Excellence Award at Manifesto Best Practice Competition
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 11th that it won excellence awards in two categories, ‘Climate Environment’ and ‘Local Culture,’ at this year’s National Basic Local Government Heads Manifesto Best Practices Competition.
Organized by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters, this competition received 353 cases from 144 basic local governments nationwide, and Dong-gu was awarded excellence awards in two categories after the first and second rounds of judging.
In the ‘Climate Environment’ category, Dong-gu submitted an entry titled ‘Creating a Resource Circulation Green Village Where Apples Ripen Through Public-Private Cooperation.’
It received high praise for establishing a foundation for empathetic administration by realizing resident autonomy reflecting residents’ daily lives, such as creating a resource circulation village, training recycling expert resource circulation guides, and selectively leading the separation and collection of recyclable resources through the establishment of a public-private cooperative system including the formation of resident councils.
In the ‘Local Culture’ category, Dong-gu submitted an entry titled ‘Democratization of Public Space Culture and Revitalization of Local Culture,’ led by the Dong-gu Maze Center working group.
This entry was positively evaluated for contributing to the creation of an environment for revitalizing local cultural arts through the operation of public facilities involving residents, including support for professional artists and resident participation, support for basic cultural arts education, and branding of local cultural values.
Mayor Im Taek of Dong-gu said, “In the fields of environment and local culture, we have actively promoted the creation of a clean urban environment through innovative cleaning administration and ensured that all residents can enjoy living cultural arts. I am pleased to receive such a good evaluation,” and added, “During the remaining term, we will continue to strive to realize the district administration goal of ‘A Warm and Happy Dong-gu with Neighborly Villages.’”
