eBay Korea Smile Club Wins '2020 National Service Award'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] eBay Korea announced on the 11th that its membership service ‘Smile Club’ has won the grand prize in the shopping membership category at the ‘2020 National Service Awards.’
The National Service Awards are given by the Institute for Industrial Policy Studies (IPS) to companies and service sectors that have contributed to domestic industrial services and economic development by quantifying factors such as customer satisfaction and service value to provide proper guidance to consumers.
Smile Club received high praise for offering differentiated customer benefits and leading the industry in paid membership services.
eBay Korea introduced the paid membership ‘Smile Club’ in April 2017, the first of its kind in the domestic distribution industry. As of this year, the number of subscribers has surpassed 2 million. Membership provides extensive discount benefits applicable anywhere on eBay Korea’s open markets, including Gmarket, Auction, and G9.
Upon joining, members are immediately granted the highest membership tier on Gmarket and Auction, and by paying an annual fee of 30,000 KRW, they receive a welcome gift of 35,000 KRW in Smile Cash. A one-month free trial is also available. Members receive 2,000 KRW immediately upon application, allowing them to accumulate up to 37,000 KRW. Additionally, various discount coupons are provided monthly, and a dedicated customer service center operates separately.
Smile Club offers even greater benefits when used together with eBay Korea’s ‘Smile’ service series. When Smile Club members use the simple payment service ‘Smile Pay’ to purchase products with dedicated delivery ‘Smile Delivery,’ they earn 1% of the purchase amount in Smile Cash. Using the private label credit card (PLCC) ‘Smile Card’ adds an additional 2%, allowing up to 3% accumulation.
Since April, same-day delivery benefits have also been enhanced. Smile Club members receive a 3,000 KRW discount coupon daily when purchasing over 10,000 KRW at the ‘Same-Day Delivery Section,’ where they can receive mart and supermarket products at their desired time on Gmarket and Auction.
