Gangdong-gu Supports Foreign Residents with 'Emergency Disaster Living Expenses'
Prepaid Cards of 300,000 to 500,000 KRW Provided to Foreign Residents Eligible for Legal Employment and Income Activities with Household Income at or Below 100% of Median Income
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is accepting applications for the 'Disaster Emergency Living Expenses' for foreign residents living in Seoul who are experiencing difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic until the 25th of this month.
The support target is foreign residents living in Seoul with a residence status that allows employment or profit-making activities, who have registered as foreigners or reported their residence in Seoul for more than 90 days as of the 27th, and whose household income is below 100% of the median income (1,757,194 KRW for a single-person household). However, foreigners residing under student or general training visas, those engaged in industries not permitted by their visa, and illegal residents are excluded.
The support amount is 300,000 KRW for households with two or fewer members, 400,000 KRW for three to four members, and 500,000 KRW for five or more members. The support funds will be provided only via prepaid cards and can be used throughout Seoul until December 15.
Online applications can be submitted through the 'Seoul Foreign Residents Disaster Emergency Living Expenses Support Application' website, and the family representative (head of household) must apply by the 25th.
From September 14 to 25, in-person applications are also possible at the on-site reception desk set up on the first floor of the Gangdong-gu Council building (55 Seongnae-ro). In-person visits must follow a 5-day rotation system based on the last digit of the applicant's birth year.
The application form can be downloaded from the online application site and must be submitted along with the consent form for collection, use, and provision of personal information, and the certificate of foreigner registration.
For foreign residents who have difficulty applying online, the Gangdong-gu Foreign Workers Support Center and the Multicultural Family Support Center (phone consultation only) provide telephone counseling and support services.
