Damyang-gun Launches Full-Scale Construction of Microbial Cultivation Facility to Reduce Livestock Odor
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The construction of a microbial cultivation facility to reduce livestock odor in Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) is gaining momentum.
According to Damyang-gun on the 3rd, the microbial cultivation facility aims to resolve issues of residents' living area infringement and conflicts caused by livestock odor by investing 2.5 billion KRW (1.25 billion KRW from the national government and 1.25 billion KRW from the county government), with completion targeted for November.
The microbial cultivation facility will house the microbial cultivation room, cold storage, and offices on the first floor, and on the second floor, there will be a seed strain laboratory, eco-friendly livestock management room, and forage analysis room.
Unlike the existing cultivation room that alternately produced seven types of microorganisms in five tanks, the new facility will cultivate only one type of microorganism per each of the seven large-scale cultivators, enabling a stable supply of high-purity microorganisms.
Currently, the Agricultural Technology Center supplies seven types of eco-friendly microorganisms not only for odor reduction provided free of charge to farms adjacent to villages but also for pest control, livestock immunity enhancement, and crop growth promotion at an affordable price of 300 KRW per 1 liter.

Lee Cheol-gyu, director of the County Agricultural Technology Center, said, “Once the microbial cultivation facility is completed, we plan to expand the supply of odor-reducing microorganisms that were previously provided free to farms near villages. We expect this to ensure a hygienic environment by reducing livestock odor, guarantee residents’ comfortable living areas, and improve productivity and stable income for agricultural and livestock farms.”
