On the 3rd, LG Uplus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the '5G-based AI Quarantine Robot Project' with autonomous robot developer Future Robot and facial recognition solution provider NetOn.
The robots developed by the three companies autonomously move inside buildings and check mask-wearing status and body temperature through facial recognition and temperature measurement. For example, if the robot detects a person not wearing a mask while moving, it provides a voice guide about mask-wearing and sends a real-time alert to the central control room. It can also identify cases where masks are not worn properly.
The 5G quarantine robot is the first domestic robot to apply multi-face recognition technology. This technology is an advanced deep learning-based AI that can recognize not only moving faces but also multiple faces simultaneously. It can recognize up to 10 faces at the same time and analyze results within 0.3 seconds. The robot is also equipped with a thermal imaging camera. It automatically measures temperature with an error range of ±0.3 to a maximum of ±0.5 degrees, allowing safe non-contact identification of high-risk individuals with temperatures above 37.5 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, the control center can remotely monitor the 5G quarantine robot’s video feed and control it in real time through 5G-based ultra-high-speed, ultra-low-latency communication. Through the control system, it is also possible to check the inspection history conducted by the 5G quarantine robot, such as occurrences of mask non-wearing, which is useful for emergency response. According to the agreement, the three companies plan to conduct demonstrations to verify the technology of the 5G quarantine robot. In particular, starting this month with a demonstration at H+ Yangji Hospital, they plan to expand the application range to public institutions and others.
