Concrete Plans for Supplying 1.27 Million Households in the Seoul Metropolitan Area... 330,000 Households in Northern Gyeonggi
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has revealed specific supply plans for the northern Gyeonggi region among the '1.27 million households in the metropolitan area.'
The Ministry announced on the 2nd that from this year, a total of 1.27 million new housing units will be sequentially recruited for residents, including 364,000 units in Seoul, 756,000 units in Gyeonggi, and 151,000 units in Incheon. By project type, 840,000 units will be supplied on public land, 390,000 units through redevelopment projects, and 40,000 units through institutional improvements.
Plans for the next three years were presented first by year. This year, 178,000 units (82,000 public land units and 96,000 redevelopment units), next year 201,000 units (82,000 public land units and 81,000 redevelopment units), and in 2022, 195,000 units (138,000 public land units and 57,000 redevelopment units) will be supplied. After 2023, a total of 657,000 units (505,000 public land units and 152,000 redevelopment units) are planned to be supplied.
Among these, 330,000 units will be supplied in the northern Gyeonggi region. This includes 270,000 units through public land projects and 60,000 units through redevelopment projects. By basic local government, Namyangju City will have 103,000 units, Goyang City 67,000 units, Paju City 36,000 units, and Yangju City 35,000 units. Notably, the 3rd phase new towns such as Namyangju Wangsuk and Goyang Changneung are also included.

View original imageIn Namyangju City, Wangsuk (66,000 units), Yangjeong Station area (14,000 units), and Jinjeop 2 (10,000 units) will be supplied. Among these, the Wangsuk district is planned to be designated as an urban high-tech industrial complex around the newly established station on the metropolitan area wide express railway (GTX) Line B, aiming to develop it as an economic hub city in the northeastern metropolitan area.
In Goyang City, a total of 67,000 units will be supplied, including Changneung (38,000 units), Janghang (13,000 units), and Broadcasting Video Valley (4,000 units). The Changneung district is planned as a self-sufficient city that coexists with its surroundings centered on Changneungcheon Stream. A central complex district will be placed in the center of the district where the Goyang Line and BRT connect, creating a landmark.
Additionally, supplies are planned for Paju Unjeong (33,000 units), Yangju Hoecheon (18,000 units), Yangju Gwangseok (8,000 units), and Yangju Okjeong (8,000 units).
Information about the 3rd phase new towns such as Namyangju Wangsuk and Goyang Changneung in these areas can be found on the 3rd phase new town website opened by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Also, a service called 'Subscription Schedule Notifier' is provided, which sends text messages about subscription schedules for interested districts 3 to 4 months before the subscription period.

Kim Seung-beom, head of the Public Land Planning Division at the Ministry, said, "We will do our best to supply 1.27 million households in the metropolitan area in a timely manner and to ensure that the 3rd phase new towns are carried out solidly by collecting opinions from experts, local governments, and residents as much as possible."
