[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] A man in his 20s was arrested by the police on suspicion of murdering a woman in her 30s in Jeju. The man is accused of killing the victim and stealing 10,000 won in cash before fleeing.

The Jeju Western Police Station announced on the 1st that they had urgently arrested Mr. A (29) on charges of murder and robbery. Mr. A was apprehended at a parking lot in Seogwipo City.

According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of killing Ms. B (39) around 6:50 p.m. on the 30th in a field near the Min-sok Oil Market in Dodoo 1-dong, Jeju City.

Mr. A reportedly confessed that he committed the crime to secure living expenses and killed the victim with a weapon when she resisted.

CCTV footage obtained by the police shows Mr. A wandering near the parking lot of the oil market in his own cargo truck, searching for a target.

Mr. A spotted Ms. B walking on a secluded side road near the oil market, dragged her to a field, and threatened her with a prepared weapon. The police believe he killed her when she resisted.

Multiple wounds caused by the weapon were found on the victim’s body. The autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a chest stab wound. There was no evidence of sexual assault.

Immediately after the crime, Mr. A stole 10,000 won in cash and a credit card from Ms. B and fled. The two were reportedly strangers to each other.

Ms. B was known to work part-time at a convenience store near Dodoo Port. On the afternoon of the 31st, the owner of the field near the oil market discovered her body in a pumpkin field and reported it to the police.

Ms. B’s parents filed a missing person report with the police at 12:27 a.m. the next day after she failed to contact them or return home past her usual time after finishing work on the 30th.

Ms. B was known to usually finish work between 5 and 6 p.m. and walk home to her house in Yongdam-dong, Jeju City, about an hour away on foot, as a form of exercise.
