Gyeonggi-do Takes Steps to Strengthen Competitiveness of Northern Industrial Complexes
50 Billion KRW Provincial Support for Dongducheon National Industrial Complex, 8.9 Billion KRW for Yeoncheon BIX
Provincial Support Lowers Industrial Complex Development Cost by 80,000~170,000 KRW, Benefiting Resident Companies
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is taking steps to strengthen the competitiveness of industrial complexes in the northern Gyeonggi region.
On the 31st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it signed a "Business Agreement to Strengthen the Competitiveness of Industrial Complexes in the Northern Gyeonggi Region" with Dongducheon City and Yeoncheon County at the Gyeonggi Northern Office located in Uijeongbu.
According to the agreement, Gyeonggi Province will provide administrative and financial support such as infrastructure and public facility construction, permits and approvals for two industrial complexes: Dongducheon National Industrial Complex and Yeoncheon Euntong General Industrial Complex (Yeoncheon BIX). The province will also focus on fostering industrial hubs to ensure timely development of the industrial complexes and job creation.
In particular, by 2022, the province will support the costs required for public development with 5 billion KRW for Dongducheon National Industrial Complex and 8.9 billion KRW for Yeoncheon BIX, respectively, from provincial funds.
The province expects that this support will lower the development costs, reducing the sale price to a maximum of 170,000 KRW per 3.3㎡ for Dongducheon National Industrial Complex and up to 80,000 KRW per 3.3㎡ for Yeoncheon BIX, thereby encouraging active corporate settlement and greatly contributing to revitalizing the local economy.
Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "Northern Gyeonggi has long endured special sacrifices for security reasons. As it has the potential to serve as a forward base for inter-Korean exchanges in the future, we will provide comprehensive support."
The Dongducheon National Industrial Complex is a project to create a textile and fashion industry specialized complex covering 267,309㎡ in Sangpae-dong. Construction is scheduled to begin in June next year and be completed in 2023.
Yeoncheon BIX is a project to attract nine industries including electronic components on 600,000㎡ in Tonghyeon-ri, Yeoncheon-eup by the end of 2021. Yeoncheon County and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation are implementing the project, and construction for the industrial complex is progressing smoothly.
Based on this agreement, the province plans to actively support the development of industrial complexes in Dongducheon and Yeoncheon that serve as practical growth hubs for the local economy, ensuring balanced development, eco-friendliness, and worker-first core values are realized.
Additionally, some areas with developed textile industries will gradually be guided toward advanced industries integrating smart industry technologies. The province will supply medium to large-scale industrial complexes that cluster individual factories, which are identified as major sources of environmental pollution, to preserve the natural environment of the northern region.
