Jangseong County Governor Yudu-seok Urgently Inspects Typhoon 'Bavi' Response Measures
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] On the 25th, Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, held a meeting chaired by County Governor Yoo Doo-seok to urgently check countermeasures in response to the approach of Typhoon No. 8 'Bavi'.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Typhoon Bavi is expected to reach the sea about 100 km southwest of Mokpo around 9 PM on the 26th, and by around 11 PM, it will be as close as 130 km to Jangseong-gun.
The expected rainfall is about 160 to 320 mm. Currently, the reservoir rate of Jangseongho is at 65%, so even if 300 mm of rain falls, it is expected to reach only about 80%.
The reservoir rates of the remaining Pyeongnim Dam, Suyangje, and Yutangje are also around 68 to 86%, so there is no concern about flood damage.
However, the problem is the strong winds. As a medium-sized typhoon, Bavi is expected to have a central pressure of 945 hectopascals (hPa) and a maximum wind speed of 45 m/s when it is adjacent to Jangseong-gun. The radius of strong winds is 420 km, so damage due to strong winds is anticipated.
Jangseong-gun plans to first thoroughly implement preventive measures to ensure that areas damaged by heavy rain during the last monsoon season do not suffer secondary damage from the typhoon.
They will also focus on managing houses and agricultural and livestock facilities affected by strong winds.
At the town and township levels, they will strictly secure signs and facilities to prevent them from falling due to strong winds, and to prepare for disasters such as landslides, they will inform residents in advance about evacuation methods and secure evacuation routes beforehand.
