Ihaesik: "Strict Response Needed for Jeon Gwang-hoon Incident"... Jinyeong: "Zero Tolerance Principle"
Police "Actively Considering Forced Investigation if Unavoidable"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lee Hae-sik, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 21st regarding the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), "The current situation should rightfully be called the Jeon Gwang-hoon incident," and added, "The government must respond sternly and take firm legal action."
At the committee's plenary meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Lee said, "Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon and the members of Sarang Jeil Church are blatantly obstructing quarantine measures while disguising themselves as mainstream Christians," and "Due to Pastor Jeon's distorted political views and excessive political consciousness, the honor and pride of the majority of good religious and faithful people are being trampled upon."
Jin Young, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "I believe the current COVID-19 situation is more severe than the previous Shincheonji Church outbreak," and added, "The metropolitan area has a large population, it is difficult to identify believers, and there are various obstructive acts, which makes the situation more serious. We intend to thoroughly investigate and respond strictly with a zero-tolerance policy toward those who obstruct quarantine, fail to follow safety rules, or violate self-quarantine regulations."
