Lee Hae-chan “Doctor strike is unjustifiable... Regrettable”
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the nationwide doctors' strike on the 14th, saying, "It is unreasonable for doctors, who are supposed to protect lives, to forcibly carry out a strike holding the health and lives of the people hostage."
On the same day, during the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in the morning, Lee said, "The community spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) is spreading again, and with the added damage from floods, it is a difficult time for all citizens."
He added, "The government proposed to quickly form a consultative body for discussions, but it is deeply regrettable that this was rejected and collective action was taken," emphasizing, "The government should respond to this strike with principle."
He also urged, "I call on the doctors to stop the strike even now and engage in dialogue to improve the medical system," adding, "The government and local governments should make every effort today to ensure that the health and lives of the people are not threatened by the doctors' strike."
