Gwangju University Students and Alumni Unite to Serve the Local Community
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Graduates and current students of Gwangju University (President Kim Hyukjong) have united their will to serve the local community.
According to Gwangju University on the 6th, graduates and current students are taking the lead in sharing activities for the socially marginalized groups in the local community with one heart and one mind.
The main figures are Kim Namjung (Class of 2014), a graduate of the Department of Police, Law, and Public Administration, and students Kim Saetbyeol (Department of Korean Language Education, 4th year), Lee Giumun (Department of Aviation Service, 4th year), and Jung Minju (Department of Aviation Service, 4th year).
Since April, they have been practicing volunteer activities for unaccompanied children in the local community.
Unaccompanied children refer to infants and children living in childcare facilities who have no family, relatives, or legal guardians.
They formed a connection while participating in the 15th promotion team of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation Gwangju Regional Headquarters and are actively engaged in various activities such as promoting the ‘Pum:da’ campaign and discovering sponsors.
In particular, they recently planned the ‘Jeonnam Dormitory Unaccompanied Children Support Sharing Campaign’ and the ‘Unaccompanied Children Policy Promotion Team,’ preparing contactless volunteer activities tailored to the COVID-19 situation.
Kim Namjung said, “I am grateful to be able to volunteer for the children as a local community member and senior along with my alma mater students,” adding, “I will do my best in contactless volunteer activities and devote myself to driving policy promotion for unaccompanied children.”
