Jeonil Building 245 '5·18 Memory Space' Reopens
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The 5·18 Democratic Movement Archives announced on the 6th that it has reopened the "5·18 and the Media" exhibition on the 3rd floor of Jeonil Building and the "5·18 Memory Space" on the 9th and 10th floors starting from the 3rd, following the transition to Level 1 social distancing.
The operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and it is open year-round except on Lunar New Year’s Day, Chuseok holiday, and January 1st.
On the 9th and 10th floors in the 5·18 Memory Space, bullet marks from the 5·18 Democratic Movement are preserved in their original form and displayed. Visitors can also view a scale model centered around the Geumnam-ro area and Jeonil Building from the 1980s, as well as a multi-attraction video show reconstructed based on helicopter shooting testimonies.
Additionally, the space is composed of areas addressing the truth and falsehoods of helicopter shootings, distorted history, fake news, and a VR experience of helicopter shootings at Jeonil Building, providing visitors with an opportunity to reflect on the 5·18 Democratic Movement.
There are five regular guided tours daily (at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5:30 p.m.).

Jung Yonghwa, director of the 5·18 Democratic Movement Archives, said, “Since reopening, we have been conducting disinfection according to quarantine guidelines and disinfecting frequently touched areas daily. We have established thorough quarantine measures such as mask-wearing, temperature checks, and limiting group visitors to 20 people or fewer, so we ask visitors to comply with the quarantine guidelines during their visit.”
