The neighbors they support are 18 families who are in urgent need of help but do not qualify for public assistance due to lacking legal requirements, receiving 100,000 KRW monthly for one year.
Hong Eun 1-dong Mabom Council (Chairman An Byung-chun) supports 15 families, including 4 elderly living alone, 5 single-parent families, and 6 general low-income families. These include household heads unable to work due to illness and disability and elderly living alone who cannot receive public benefits due to exceeding the income recognition amount of the obligor.
Eunje Church (Senior Pastor Shim Eun-su) supports 2 elderly living alone households who feel a heavy burden from hospital medical expenses and food costs.
Additionally, Yoo Kyung-hee, president of the Pobangteo Market Merchants' Association, helps one single-parent family facing economic difficulties due to the household head's unemployment, lacking treatment and living expenses.
The "Supporting 100 Families Project" is a unique Seodaemun-gu sharing initiative that enables families in welfare blind spots to continuously receive support by forming partnerships with local residents, businesses, and religious organizations.
Since 2011, it has achieved cumulative support for 633 families with a total funding of over 3.6 billion KRW.
In particular, it provides not only financial support such as living expenses, medical expenses, and education expenses but also welfare services through professional case managers who comprehensively solve underlying problems in each family, helping partnered families become self-reliant.
Moreover, all sponsorship funds are transferred via automatic payment through the Community Chest of Korea directly to the beneficiary families, ensuring a very transparent process.
If neighborhood community centers, welfare institutions, schools, or neighbors recommend struggling neighbors or students, the district conducts home visits and eligibility assessments to select beneficiaries for the "Supporting 100 Families Project."
