[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Tyler White (30), the new foreign hitter of the professional baseball team SK Wyverns, has arrived in Korea through Incheon Airport.
On the 31st at Incheon International Airport, White said, "I am excited to continue my career in a new environment," and added, "I will do my best to improve SK's performance."
SK Wyverns signed White to fill the spot of former foreign pitcher Nick Kingham, who left due to injury. After facing difficulties in recruiting a foreign pitcher, they decided to add a foreign hitter instead.
White has a similar batting style to the existing foreign hitter Jamie Romak, and they both play the same defensive position (first base), making competition inevitable.
Regarding this situation, White said, "I have experience playing 6 to 7 positions in the minor leagues and 4 positions in the major leagues, so it's okay," and added, "As long as I can step up to the plate, I can handle any position given to me."
White expressed, "Rather than competing with Romak, I want to unite and help the team's performance," and added, "I met Romak as an opponent on a team in the U.S. four years ago. Watching his play back then, I thought he was a good player."
When asked about his decision to join the KBO League, he said, "I have been thinking about playing abroad for several years," and added, "I am excited to be able to play baseball in Korea."
Meanwhile, White underwent immigration inspection and special quarantine at Incheon Airport on the same day, moved to a screening clinic for a COVID-19 test, and then went to the accommodation prepared by the team in Ganghwa-do, where he will enter a two-week self-quarantine.
