High School Freshmen Who Are Not Suited to Their School Can Change Their Career Path
Busan Office of Education to Implement Career Change Transfer System for 1st Year High School Students in August
Specialized High Schools ⇒ General High Schools, General High Schools ⇒ Specialized High Schools, Twice a Year Opportunities
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Transfer admissions allowing first-year high school students who find their current school unsuitable for their aptitudes to change their career paths will be implemented next month.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 30th that transfer admissions for career changes targeting first-year high school students in the first semester of this year will be conducted in August.
This transfer admission system is designed to help students who have lost interest in school life due to a mismatch between their aptitudes and their current school to change their school track and find a career path that suits their aptitudes.
The program is conducted twice a year, in the first and second semesters, for first-year students at Busan's autonomous public high schools, standardized general high schools, and specialized high schools. There are two types: transferring from a specialized high school to a general high school or from a general high school to a specialized high school.
Students wishing to apply for career change transfer admissions in the first semester should obtain a recommendation from their current school principal and submit a transfer application form to the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education or the relevant school between August 19 and 21.
Applicants transferring from a specialized high school to a general high school must have fewer than five days of unexcused absences and no disciplinary actions from the School Violence Committee or the Guidance Committee. Additionally, their current semester grades in Korean, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science must be within the top 3 grades for each subject at their specialized high school.
For transfers from a general high school to a specialized high school, applicants must meet the unexcused absence and disciplinary criteria as well as follow the admission guidelines of the targeted specialized high school.
The number of transfer admissions allowed and the admission guidelines for specialized high schools will be announced on the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education website and the respective school websites on August 10 for the first semester and in January next year for the second semester.
The Office of Education has been implementing the career change transfer admission system since the 2013 academic year. On average, more than 70 students annually find their aptitudes and change their career paths through this system.
